The Morning Sports Page -
There really is no flow to this show. Rather it is a few words followed by the typical sound snippet or laugh track. Not sure which one of the brain trust among the cast of characters on this show are responsible for hitting the sound effect button, but I'm surprised they don't suffer from carpal tunnel. The constant barrage of "Ooooh" and "Ahhhh", mixed in with the Homer Simpson "Doh!" probably equate to 10% of their total airtime. The rest of the time is spent trying to explain to each other just how stupid the other one is as they clearly have no idea what the other is talking about.
By far the most annoying personality is Jim Celania. This guy thinks everything he says is funny. Listening to him reminds of me Porky Pig. To say that he struggles to get his words out, is an understatement. Between stuttering and laughing while he talks, he really has no idea what he is talking about. For as much as he talks, he brings very little if anything.
Primetime w/ The Packman -
After listening to this self-righteous pompous a$$, it's clear that this apple didn't fall far from the tree. I think he truly loves to proclaim himself as The Packman. If I could stand to listen to him for longer than my drive home, I'd love to count how many times in one show he mentions his name. Now I realize that name recognition is important for radio personalities, but if somebody didn't know he goes by the name Packman after listening to 30 seconds of the show, they have a severe comprehension disorder.
While Celania is clearly the most annoying part of the Morning Sports Page, there isn't one clear cut winner for Primetime. This show has several annoying characters and show segments. For instance, the Whiner Line. Packman shuts up for a few seconds while they play recordings left by the often redneck listeners. Now these rants are usually profanity laced so most of each call is beeped out. The parts that you do hear typically involve calling somebody on the show stupid. Despite the same calls every day, the Packman and crew can be heard laughing throughout each call. Case in point, the caller who impersonates Richard Walker. Every call this guy over-emphasizes a "Wh" sound whenever possible. "Richard Whalker" also throws in a "Who-ah" type groan after most sentences. Packman and crew almost double over laughing despite hearing the same routine for the hundredth time. It is also customary when calling the Whiner Line to start off by greeting Packman, therefore this allows Packman to return the greeting despite it being a taped call.
QCB, is the court jester of the show. He brings his ghetto style commentary to the show each hour with his usually incorrect sports picks. It's also amusing to hear the Packman switch from "old white guy" to "old white guy trying to sound cool" when he deals with QCB. In a different way than Celania, QCB makes me realize just how uneducated some people are in society (QCB was challenged to an on-air spelling bee by a little girl and lost). How are these two given a microphone and allowed to speak?
Unfortunately, if you want to hear what is considered "sports radio" in Charlotte, we are forced to listen.
