The clock operator during yesterday's Monday Night Football game. Why? Do you recall that the clock didn't run during the onside kickoff? After the play the refs quickly determined to run just 2 seconds off the clock. That allowed just enough time for Dallas to run a 2nd pass play to gain a few more yards to set up the game winning kick. Without that precious extra time Dallas would have been forced to try a 61 yard kick or throw a Hail Mary.
Even more, consider this: as the Cowboys rushed to line to spike the ball as the clock was winding down there remained one tick left. The operator could have clearly let it run to zero, it was that close. Eventually, the refs reviewed the previous play and ruled it an incomplete pass.
Think about this:
How funny would it have been if the clock had expired on the spike play that turned out to not be a spike play only to have that play wiped away because of the review of the previous play. Or if Folk missed the first attempt only to have the play waived off due to a Buffalo timeout and then nailed the 2nd attempt for the win.
