Monumental?

The big talk this morning centered around the statements made by Panther, Kris Jenkins. Wordsmith, Jim Celania, said this was a MONUMENTAL event. Is it really Jim, or are you just happy that you have a story you can blow out of proportion to fill airtime?

Jenkins didn't divulge any top secret information. He said exactly what everyone already knew, yes, even Mr. Celania. Sure it makes for good copy and gives the local hacks something to talk about. But I think far too much was made over his comments. Don't you think the Panthers organization realized that they haven't been playing as well as they should? Sure they still won this past Sunday but it was against the Falcons, who are a really bad team. Oh, and they only won by 7. Yes, a win is a win, but that level of performance coming off of a severe beating the previous week certainly didn't give everyone the feeling that the team had righted the ship.

Now getting back to Jenkins' comments, it is not as if the organization didn't realize how poorly they've played lately. It wasn't Jenkins who finally figured it out and decided to let the rest of his teammates in on his new found wisdom. Do you really think that because somebody makes a few public comments that all of the sudden things are right in Panther land? I'm sure week in and week out, during practice and in the games, the players communicate and try to motivate each other. Just because they don't always do it in front of a reporter doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
